So... I am mexican, of course I was going to put something about the Día de Muertos (but of course)
This Ofrenda was set up at grandma's , and the only people I know are my granddad, and my sister. She died when she was like 21 or something. His boyfriend was driving, and we suspect he was high. They got a little baby girl who apparently crashed through the car window and got tangled on the branches of a tree. She remained there for quite some time, until people came and see what had happened. The boyfriend is alive and well, but he never got to see his daughter again.
The little baby girl is now a señorita that is going to be, pretty soon, 15 years old. She's living with my folks, and she keeps on producing lots of troubles for them: she likes to tell lies, and she might be a kleptomaniac, and you know... my mother was the most affected of such tragic event. At that moment, I was really angry at her, how could you die like that? Youngster dies in a car accident... such a cliche man, but it happens... all the fucking time
Anyway, that is not what I wanted to write about. The thing is that a year ago, we were watching Coco from Pixar... and, Coco is specially designed to fuck mexicans up, it is also a reminder of your traditions, I did cry like a little bitch at the end. Speaking of bitching... I was bitching last post about Disney, but I recently saw a great cartoon:
Really cool to see them retaking their old, and great concepts, and the story is really cool, go check it out, it's on netflix.
As I was saying before I got interrupted by myself... What Pixar is telling us, is that you need to remember your dead ones, remember of what they liked, remembering is nice. Putting a picture of them, and the whole story is a really nice one: from the 2nd through the 4th of November, we believe that the doors between this realm, and the Inframundo (the place of the dead) can let the dead ones to pass trough. The dead ones are attracted to the Cempazuchitl/Zempoal = twenty and xochitl = flower, which is a nice pretty flower that for some reason you can see it everywhere around these dates. And the Ofrenda consists on the things that your familiars used to love. We also add a glass of water, and some pan de muertos (bread with lots of sugar on top), and we also put some salt (this is to tell the dead bad guys to fuck off)
And of course we also got the Halloween present, because of our direct contact with our gringo vecinos. My kids are still too little to enjoy some pumpkin carving, but I have always loved to do some, and the story behind it (it was conceived to fend off evil entities as well, and this from another region in the world, and around the same dates, coincidence?)
The dressing up on Halloween is every children wet dream, I used to love it a lot, and I was also going to tell you, invisible guys, about the muertos, and the time when they climb on top of you, but I will be leaving that for next post, because I want to combine it with another drawing... which is important in my book (the ghoooost peopleeeeee)... Will see you guys around.
